Dental Bridges Replace Missing Teeth

A Natural Replacement for Missing Teeth

Dental bridges are used to replace missing teeth. They work by anchoring a fake tooth (called a pontic) to two or more crowns that will go over the teeth on either side of the missing tooth. Porcelain bridges allow for a more natural look that matches the rest of the teeth.

Reasons for a fixed bridge:

  • Restore missing teeth.
  • Maintain the shape of your face.
  • Prevent remaining teeth from drifting out of position.
  • Restore chewing and speaking ability.
  • Restore your smile.
  • Re-distribute bite force back to normal be replacing the missing tooth.

What does getting a fixed bridge involve?

At your first visit, the teeth around the missing tooth gap (the abutment teeth) are prepared for crowns. The teeth have to be shaved down to fit the crown over them. Once the abutment teeth are good to go, impressions are made so that your bridge can be made to fit your mouth perfectly. After this, Dr. Regan DDS will provide a temporary bridge for you to wear while your permanent one is being made.

At your second appointment, our staff will take out the temporary bridge and your new bridge will be adjusted to fit perfectly. Dr. Regan DDS will ensure that your bite is correct and that the new bridge fits properly. He may use temporary cement to make sure the bridge is fitting correctly. After a couple of weeks, the bridge will be permanently cemented into place.
