Porcelain Inlays

Durable and Natural Porcelain Inlay Repairs

An inlay is used to repair teeth that have a large amount of decay or a defective filling. Porcelain inlays are popular because they can match the color of the natural surrounding tooth, whereas traditional inlays are gold. Inlays are a good alternative for fillings when the affected area is large because they conserve enough tooth to not need a crown. The inlay is cemented into the tooth, preventing decay and infection from getting any deeper. Inlays are highly durable and can last up to or longer than 30 years.

Reasons for inlay restorations:

  • Large area of decay.
  • Broken fillings.
  • Broken teeth.

What does getting an inlay involve?

Unlike a traditional filling, getting an inlay takes two appointments. This is because molds have to made of the damaged tooth so that the inlay can be made to exactly match.

Dr. Regan DDS will start by numbing the tooth and removing the decay (or old filling). After that, he will clean the space out thoroughly to take the most accurate impression as possible. While your inlay is being made in the lab, he will send you off with a temporary filling to keep the tooth protected.

During your next appointment, Dr. Regan DDS will cement the inlay perfectly into place, making any adjustments that are needed for your mouth’s function and comfort.

Our staff will tell you how to care for your new inlay. Remember to maintain good oral hygiene to keep your smile bright and beautiful!
